wellbeing in nature workshops

Whether you want to learn a new skill, explore sustainable practices and woodland management, or simply spend some time in nature, our workshops are delivered by experts in their field, promising a fun and relaxed learning experience. Forty acres of ancient woodland provide the perfect setting, letting you embrace a slower pace and get in time with nature’s rhythms. All workshops are informed by the New Economics Foundation’s ‘Five ways to wellbeing’ and designed to educate, enable and inspire all.

If one or two days just isn’t enough, you can opt to stay for an extra night before or after your workshop (or both!), giving you more time to swim in the river, explore the woods, stargaze and relax around the campfire. Bell tents can be rented for £95.00 a night (for up to 2 people) with additional adults charged at £40 per person (up to a maximum of eight people), or you can bring your own tent and camp within our 40-acre woodland for £20.00 per person per night.

Get in touch about our bespoke workshops to book a day exclusively for your group, with groups of four or more receiving a 10% discount. Share your preferred dates and we’ll collaborate with you to design your ideal experience.

Two-Day Workshop: Charcoal Making and Greenwood Crafts £180pp

Dates: 29th and 30th June or 10th and 11th August 2024

Experience two transformative days within our 40-acre ancient oak woodland in Cornwall. Your workshop begins with a warm welcome around an open fire, accompanied by a cup of tea, where we’ll outline the coming days. Then, we’ll kick things off by teaching you the art of charcoal burning to make quality sustainable charcoal, using wood produced from ongoing woodland management.

Once the burn is lit, we’ll turn our attention to greenwood craft, an age-old method of making practical and beautiful objects from freshly cut ‘green’ wood. Under the guidance of our experienced tutors, learn how to use traditional hand tools like shave horses, axes, and crook knives to create spatulas, butter knives, walking sticks and a three-legged stool. You’ll also learn safe knife techniques as well as the principles and practicalities of tool sharpening, an essential for greenwood craft.

When day two rolls around, we’ll crack open the kiln to reveal our eco-friendly charcoal, then test it out by cooking lunch on the barbecue. The rest of the day is free for you to complete up any projects you’ve started before finishing up with useful items and new skills under your belt.

Max 8 people. No previous experience necessary. Please wear suitable footwear and clothes that you don’t mind getting dirty. An essential kit list and directions will be sent once booked.

Two-Day Workshop: A Night in the Woods £200pp

Date: To be announced. Please contact us to be placed on our waiting list.

If you want to leave the rush and racket of the modern world behind, this two-day, one-night workshop is designed to slow the tempo and let you tune into the sounds of nature. During your time in the woods, you’ll explore a range of skills, including fire lighting techniques, campfire cooking, knife craft, and how to put up a basha and hammock for you to sleep in (and if sleeping in hammock isn’t your thing, we’ve got camp beds for you, too).

When you’re not busy learning new skills, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the ancient woodland, take refreshing dips in the river, gaze at stars in the remarkably clear sky, and swap stories around the campfire. This experience is designed to be family-friendly, and young children can be accommodated with prior notice. If rain is on the cards, the area is sheltered with a tarpaulin and parachute.

Max 6 people. Tools, materials, food and beverages are provided (feel free to bring extra snacks). An essential kit list and directions will be sent once booked.

While we ask you leave only footprints, you’re welcome to take home excess pieces of timber for your own greenwood craft projects.

One-Day Workshop: Wellbeing in the Woods £145pp

 Dates: Saturday 17th August 2024

It’s no secret that spending time in nature is good for us – there’s something about fresh air and the sounds of the woods that relaxes and rejuvenates us. This one-day experience is all about embracing the feel-good power of nature, from forest bathing to greenwood crafting.

The first half of the day will be spent bathing in the forest (figuratively, of course – you can keep your kit on!). The walk concludes in a peaceful three-acre meadow where you will enjoy a delicious picnic lunch of local, seasonal produce.

After lunch, it’s time to try your hand at greenwood crafting, an age-old method of making practical and beautiful objects from freshly cut ‘green’ wood. Guided by our experienced tutors, you’ll learn safe knife techniques and use traditional hand tools to craft, carve, and create spatulas, butter knives and walking sticks.

Max 8 people. An essential kit list and directions will be sent once booked
